Without a doubt, nail art was one of the biggest trends to hit the beauty scene this year.

Without a doubt, nail art was one of the biggest trends to hit the beauty scene this year. With celebrities like Jessica Biel, Zooey Deschanel and many more jumping on the bandwagon, we took their lead and had a ball experimenting with the latest colour, texture and effect combinations available. From learning how to get the ombré effect to dipping our nails in teeny, tiny caviar-like balls, we did it all. In these pictures from our Instagram account, you'll see every nail look we tried over the course of the year — try one tonight, or at least let them inspire you to do something different! Click through the gallery, and tell us which one is your favourite — you'll notice we quite enjoy a good, classic orange-red. . .

Update It: Nail the New-Season Ombré Manicure

Nails are bigger news than lipstick these days.

Nails are bigger news than lipstick these days. More then something to, ahem, polish up your look (no pun intended!), a manicure is an extension of your style and individuality. It's the ultimate accessory. And it's cheaper than the Céline tote you've been eyeing! This season we saw a return to some classic colours (think reds, burgundy, black and nudes) and while nail art showed that it's still here to stay, there was a new player: ombré manicures. Yep, just like hair, nails got involved in the fading game. Now, those amongst you may remember that Lauren Conrad was a big fan of the look last season but there's a new way to wear it. Step right this way to see how to take this season's hottest look from runway to reality.

Feeling Blue? Try Lauren Conrad's Trendy Ombré Manicure

She's tried the ombré highlights look before and she's even gotten in on the multi-coloured hair extensions action, so it makes sense that Lauren Conrad would figure out a way to incorporate the two trends into her beauty look.

She's tried the ombré highlights look before and she's even gotten in on the multi-coloured hair extensions action, so it makes sense that Lauren Conrad would figure out a way to incorporate the two trends into her beauty look. At an HTC Status event in LA on Tuesday night, Lauren walked the red carpet sporting a chic, fun ombré nail polish technique that perfectly complemented her streaked-with-baby-blue strands. To recreate her style, simply paint your pinky the darkest colour, applying a polish in a lighter tone for each of the subsequent nails.
