Last night in Sydney, Giorgio Armani opened their highly-anticipated beauty counter in Myer. Celebrities including Laura Dundovic and Zoe Marshall turned out to help celebrate the luxe affair, but there was one more lady to catch our attention — or rather, her hair did. Nicole Warne — also know as her blogger alias, Gary Pepper Vintage — sported hair so glossy, we almost wanted to run up and touch it. There's a few tips and tricks you can do at home to get shinier hair, keep reading.
The eyes may have been gorgeous and dramatic at By Johnny's show last night, but the hair really stole the show. We were mighty impressed with how sleek and smooth the models' strands were — and the powerful statement the look made. With a bold '90s-inspired middle part, the stick-straight (but not stiff) locks moved with the models and looked super healthy. Redken hair director Richard Kavanagh said of the look, "Because shine was so important, I wanted every model’s hair to be prepped with Redken Diamond Oil before styling, to give that ultra-chic feel.” Mission accomplished, we reckon. 1. Shiny strands start with moisture. Get the maximum hydration out of any conditioner by sealing your shampoo and conditioning routine with a shot of cold water. You can also amp up your regular wash with a sealing apple cider vinegar rinse, which dissolves any leftover product buildup that can make hair dull.
2. Use a shine serum. Add a serum to damp hair before you blow dry for that high-shine finish. Smoothing on a lightweight oil after your hair is dry can also add a gleam and tame flyaways.
3. Use the right tools. The tools you use to blow-dry your hair can also effect the shine factor. While blow drying, use a round brush with natural bristles to help add shine from roots to ends. Finally, completing a blow dry with a blast of cool air can also make a difference in the gloss of your style.
The average temperature in London has been around 1°C but it'll take more than snow and near-freezing temperatures to take down Kate Middleton's hair. If anything it looks more shiny and perfectly curled than ever. The Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in London last night for a preview of Lucian Freud paintings at the National Portrait Gallery. Sporting a fresh blow-dry, likely at the hands of mane man James Pryce (her go-to stylist), Kate looked flawless. If you're looking for some Thursday morning shine-spiration, you've certainly come to the right place. But something that did catch us off guard is her lashes. Is it just us or does the Duchess look as though she's traded in black for a pop of navy blue mascara? We're pretty certain she has.
Princess Mary and Katie Holmes have both blinded us with their impeccably shiny hair recently. And though we don't know their exact secret, we're betting that their lustrous locks are the result of a few easy healthy-hair moves.
TIP #1: Use a hair mask once a week to keep hair supersoft. Try Kiehl's Sunflower Color Preserving Deep Recovery Pak ($56), which is infused with shine-inducing vitamins and fatty acids. L'Oreal Elvive Nutri-Gloss Conditioning Masque ($11.50) is also a great choice for all hair types.
TIP #2: If you've been OD'ing on styling products, buildup could be causing your hair to look dull. Use a clarifying shampoo, like Trilogy Clean and Balance Shampoo ($19.95) to restore shine.
It's official. We have hair envy. If we're being honest with ourselves, we've had it ever since Olivia Palermo ditched the length and opted for the universally flattering lob. But Liv took it up a notch when she attended the NYC screening of Midnight in Paris, hosted by The Cinema Society and Thierry Mugler last night. We had to put on our sunnies to take in the seriously shine that Ms. P was packing.
We want in, we said to ourselves. So we hit up ShopStyle Australia, picked out the crème de la crème of shince-enhancing products — only the best for Olivia and I — and are ready to swish our silky strands! Want in? We thought you might! Check out our perfect product picks for shiny hair below.
Kim Kardashian looks happy and healthy in the April 2011 issue of Self magazine, in which she opens up about everything from those endless plastic surgery rumours to her favourite nail polish and the secret to her shiny strands! Of the constant speculation surrounding surgery, the reality TV star says:
"Rumours don't bother me anymore. I've read that I've had my lips done. I've always had big lips. Look at my baby pictures. It's ridiculous. Or they'll show one picture of me today and one tomorrow, and say I've had my nose done in between. When? Didn't you just see me yesterday? And how many times have I 'had my butt done'? People's logic is so weird. I don't know why they bother!"
Speaking of her seriously glossy mane, Kim says the trick is not washing her hair every day and switching shampoos. She confesses to having bad hair days "all the time"— though we've never seen a strand out of place! — but her trick to solving them is easy: pop your hair in a ponytail! A fellow nail obsessive like us, her favourite colour at the moment is OPI's Midnight in Moscow, a rich mahogany that was part of the brand's Russian collection.
We're used to Gwyneth Paltrow bringing her A-Game to the party but the jury's still out on this one-shouldered, diamonte-dusted number. All imma say is that I'm happy she didn't go for co-ordinating eye makeup. Instead she's kept things fairly simple with a graphic block of rustic brown shadow to add definition across the eye and brow bone, finishing the look with kohl and mascara. Her pink gloss is pretty but it's her base that lets the side down. As well as suffering from an oily breakout — we all get them Gwynnie, just you'll never catch us without our blotting papers — she's overdone the cheek colour a tad. But check out how slick her hair is styled to the side. Something we're seeing a lot of lately. Do you like the whole effect? Or not so much?

I LOVE finding out an on-set secret, don't you? Like the time we learnt about Angelina Jolie's Salt lipgloss or we heard that Dermalogica PreCleanse was shipped, en masse, to The Twilight Saga: Eclispe set to remove the vampire's heavy makeup. It makes you feel like you're there, right. Like you have insider knowledge. I only have to utter what an A-lister uses and the next day Pop is already wearing it.
And the latest scoop comes straight from the set of one of our fave shows, Glee. Mary Stultz, a hairdresser on the hit show, revealed that Alterna products "are a staple in the hair/makeup trailer at Glee." The Hemp with Organics Spray Shine ($25.95) is adored by the whole set, but particularly Lea Michele, and Mary says: "I keep in my back pocket and use it to add shine between takes." The spray not only gives hair a lustrous finish, but it also prevents colour fade and protects against heat styling. It's scented with Brazilian mango and coconut (yummo!) making it perfect for Summer. Seriously, divine.
