How-To: Lauren Conrad's Soft and Styled-to-the-Side Bun

'Member when Lauren Conrad went all Old Hollywood on us at the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party last month?

'Member when Lauren Conrad went all Old Hollywood on us at the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party last month? I liked it. And she's rocking a similar vibe here at the VH1 Save the Music Gala in NYC last night. Pantene Expert Stylist Barney Martin, of Barney Martin Hairdressing in Surry Hills, gives us the lowdown on recreating this softly-styled side 'do:

STEP 1: Start by washing your hair with Pantene Always Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner ($7.99)

STEP 2: Apply a golf-ball sized amount of mousse — try Pantene Body Builder Mousse ($6.99) — and lightly rub in the palms of your hands before applying to the mid to end lengths of your hair.

STEP 3: Blow-dry straight and smooth with a large barrelled brush, making sure your hairdryer is blowing down your hair shaft to keep the cuticle laying flat—this encourages a shiny finish.

2011 Spring New York Fashion Week: Nanette Lepore

Now I know what you're all thinking.

Now I know what you're all thinking. This is probably the kind of style you sling your strands up into if you're taking a shower or hitting the gym, but did you know that it's actually wearable in Real Life too? Thought not. But it is. Your brief — as stylist Kevin Ryan told WWD — is this: “Princess Leia: Bad. Ballerina: Bad. It’s someplace in the middle.” And that place is pretty much a centre-parted low side-pony tucked up into a loose bun. It's messy-chic so 'tis fine to see through the loop. It all adds to the charm. Team with a glossy watermelon lip. Purrdy.

2010 Tony Awards: Lea Michele

No, Lea Michele is not naked.

No, Lea Michele is not naked. In fact she wore a cute sunshine yellow frock to the 2010 Tony Awards, but Fab will tell your more about that. I'm here to talk fringes, up 'dos and raspberry lipstick. First up, I love Lea with a fringe, I remember when she first started showing off her bangs — HOT. No doubt about it, the Glee girl looked good. But the tricky little thing with fringes is that they need to be The Perfect Length. This one isn't. It's too short and she looks more goodie-two-shoes Rachel than sexpot Lea. It's a shame as the twisty side-number looks all cute and award-y. Lea went for simple makeup: a wash of silvery white across the lids, maximum fake lashes and a cute raspberry lip. You like?

Love It or Hate It: Leona Lewis' ELLE Style Awards Look

As well as having a voice that made Simon Cowell sit up and listen, Miss Lewis is trumpeting herself as a bit of a style icon these days, methinks.

As well as having a voice that made Simon Cowell sit up and listen, Miss Lewis is trumpeting herself as a bit of a style icon these days, methinks. Unafraid to try new looks, she turned up to the ELLE Style Awards in London last night channelling the 1940s. Looking ultra-glamorous, the singing sensation showed that she can pull off whatever look is thrown at her. It's all been carefully put together: the lined eye, the white shadow, the coral lip, the low side chignon, the black structured cocktail hat (Alexander McQueen, Fab tells me). I love it all, do you?
