We've got a message for all you brides-to-be — your makeup on the day doesn't have to be, well, bridal. It can be loud and proud with a punchy lip, but it can also be sexy and smouldering thanks to a well-applied smoky eye. The key to nailing a smoky eye on your big day is balance. If you're going to do it, be sure to pick a bridal pink (dusty, non-committal) lipstick. Or better yet, consider a nude gloss or matte lipstick. With the David Jones Autumn Winter 2013 Fashion Launch due to begin in just a few hours, we've got a sneak peek at the two, exclusive looks Napoleon Perdis — the department store's makeup director — has created for the event. He's calling them the "2013 smoky", and has even included Pantone's Colour of the Year — emerald.
"For Autumn/Winter I wanted to return to a richer, deeper colour palette. I love collaborating with stylist Kelvin Harries and he was very much inspired by the richness of both colour and texture throughout the various designer collections.
"I've created two modern yet wearable eye statements: A one-dimensional metallic in shades of grey and a deep emerald, and a tonal neutral with punch. The one commonality is in the depth of the fusing and blending for each eye look. I’m calling it 'The 2013 smoky eye'! It's not about precision but more about sheer washes of colour across the whole lid to create an intensity and moody intrigue. It's a little bit broody, definitely sexy and perfect for the new season ahead."

If there's one thing we know from looking at this week's beauty round-up, it's that the bold lip is a makeup trend that's here to stay. Alexa Chung, Rihanna and Kristen Stewart let their lips do all the talking, and we think it totally paid off for them. Going all the way when it came to staying natural, Lara Bingle gave us a lesson in how to do nude makeup the right way — and her couldn't take our eyes off her beautiful ice-blue eyes as a result. French actress Berenice Marlohe went the other way with some seriously heavy eyeshadow playing up her big eyes, while Ashley Greene went for a soft and feminine look. One thing they all had in common? They all looked beautiful. Click through the gallery to see who rounds out the top 10 and copy the looks at home!

Although the shoot was held during the day, Emma wore pretty, smoky charcoal eye makeup with the perfect amount of pink blush and lipstick. What makes this look appropriate for daytime is that it's just enough colour to make a statement without going overboard — perfect for a wedding or formal event. To recreate her look, just swap your regular black shadow and eyeliner for a hazy grey shade, apply a rosy blush with a light touch and add a petal-pink lipstick or gloss.
